Toothaches Are Hard To Endure

A toothache can be one of the hardest to endure. A visit to the dentist is not very exciting either. But the only way we can get rid of that horrid toothache is by visiting a dentist as soon as possible. Sometimes the tooth ache could be a short, sharp sensations when we consume something too hot or too cold. This is generally diagnosed as a case of sensitive teeth and some minor changes in the way we brush our teeth, the brush that we use and the tooth paste we use can help to give some relief. It is now possible to even do an online check-up, the results of which can be sent to your dentist and the dentist will be able to prescribe the treatment. Sensitive toothpaste will most certainly be prescribed and it does give a lot of relief.

What Happens When Dentine Is Exposed

Many people between the ages of 20 and 50 sometimes complain of teeth sensitivity. This happens when the dentine or the inner part of the tooth that is soft is exposed because of the receding gums and the wearing away of the enamel. When we bite into a cold ice cream or drink a hot tea or cold drink the discomfort increases. It is very sharp and for a short time it can be quite unbearable. Since the inner tooth is exposed the nerves get stimulated when we consume something hot or cold. By visiting the dentist, you will get some long-lasting relief as you will be advised to make some small changes in your oral routine and also asked to change your regular toothpaste to a sensitive toothpaste.

Usual Causes Of Sensitive Teeth

The enamel is the outer covering of the teeth and when that wears out it exposes the inner tooth. That causes sensitivity of the teeth. Enamel wears away due to several reasons. Some people grind their teeth and this slowly wears out the enamel. Then there are some people who brush their teeth very vigorously with a hard brush and at regular intervals. This again wears out the enamel and can cause receding gums. It is important to use the right technique to brush your teeth and the dentist will be able to advice you on this. The dentist will also prescribe the use of a sensitive toothpaste instead of the regular one. Another cause of erosion of the enamel is the consumption of acidic food and drink. There are a lot of foods and drinks in our diet that are acidic and over time this will lead to the enamel eroding away.

Causes Of Receding Gums

The receding gums too can cause sensitive teeth. When the gums recede the inner part of the teeth is exposed. Receding of gums can be caused because of the gum disease like periodontal disease and gingivitis or brushing of teeth aggressively and often. Certain treatments like whitening of teeth can also cause tooth sensitivity. If a special sensitive toothpaste that contains potassium nitrate is used prior and during the whitening treatment, the teeth will not be as sensitive.
