The complaint of sensitive teeth affects thousands of people daily in India, with many suffering the agony for days on end, as they do not have adequate dental care. Traditional methods of helping with toothache include the use of home remedies that have been used for many years.
The sensitive teeth remedy commonly used are herbal and natural remedies which have been proved effective. These include chewing of cloves which contains the compound Eugenol, which works as a mild anaesthetic and numbs the sensations. Other remedies include gargling the affected tooth with warm salt water; this is to be repeated many times and does provide some relief. In others, it is the other extreme, “ice” wrapped in a cloth and placed over the aching area, which may or may not calm the affected tooth.
Another remedy is the application of crushed garlic to the affected tooth. However, there are no guarantees that these methods provide sensitive teeth remedy; at most, it provides temporary relief. The root cause for sensitive teeth is the exposure of the protective layer of the tooth, called the dentin. This exposure could be due to receding gums or teeth being exposed to acidic food, tooth decay, gum disease, etc. Fortunately, this condition can be treated efficiently by using specially formulated toothpastes, with proven chemicals as well as natural extracts.
Besides the sensitive teeth remedy used
in the specially formulated toothpaste, the dentist would recommend that the
patient practice good oral hygiene and include a specialised diet. It would
also help to avoid hot and cold drinks during the treatment period; the patient
can slowly transition to hot and cold drinks carefully after the treatment is
complete. With these precautions and good practices, the problem of aching
sensitive teeth could be a thing of the past.
