Oral Hygiene Tips to Fight Sensitivity

However, the best part is that teeth sensitivity can be cured. You need not worry about giving up your favorite things completely. A little oral hygiene is all you need to get your teeth to be healthy. Here are a few tips to prevent sensitivity.

Brushing and flossing

Brushing your teeth twice daily is recommended to keep healthy oral hygiene. Brushing before you go to bed can help prevent bacteria and keep your teeth healthy. Flossing regularly is also a good habit.

Reduce the intake of acidic and sugary foods

Maybe you are that person with a sweet tooth who can’t survive without those lovely sweets or maybe you love having sodas etc. However, you must keep in mind that these foods can damage the enamel of your teeth over time causing sensitivity or even worse cavities. Reducing the amount of these foods can contribute greatly to good oral hygiene and a healthy mouth.

Drink water immediately after consuming fruity or sugary beverages

Acidic and sugary foods can both destroy your tooth’s enamel. A good oral hygiene practice to follow here is to rinse your mouth as soon as you consume any fruity beverage or sugary food. If rinsing is not possible, you could always drink some water and rinse later when you can. This step is important in protecting your teeth from sensitivity.

Using the right toothpaste

If your teeth are sensitive, why not switch to sensitive teeth toothpaste? These toothpastes are easily available over-the-counter and can help in reducing tooth sensitivity. Sensitive teeth toothpaste usually contains fluoride which creates a protective barrier around your tooth protecting it from sensitivity and cavities.

Use a soft-bristled toothbrush

A hard-bristled toothbrush can damage your teeth’s enamel. Hence, it is always advised to use a soft bristled toothbrush. Be gentle while brushing. Further, as part of a good oral hygiene practice, it is recommended to change your toothbrush every two to three months, before it is worn out.

Visit your dentist

Most of us visit the dentist only when we experience some kind of discomfort, or we know for sure that there is a cavity. However, visiting your dentist every few months, preferably every six months, and having your mouth checked is a good practice. It helps you keep the cavities at bay and prevents other dental issues.
